THE ABSENCE OF COLOR...

Did I say it was SNOWING?  Yes, yesterday was the 1st day of spring & it was SNOWING!  Strange but true...and next to the fluffy piles of white stuff are sweet little daffodils poking their heads out, reaching for the sky.  I have been wrapping up taxes for my accountant...so not feeling really creative this week, but here is a little sketch of a daffodil I did with Corel Draw...ENJOY!

RAIN...RAIN...RAIN...

MARCH 20th...SPRING is here!  
It is raining...so it MUST be spring!  A lot of green things are popping out and so is the color!  I've been thinking a lot about color and how it affects me and my work.  I usually do my work in groups...and they all seem to speak in a certain color palette to me.  I start sketching and before I know it...a COLOR pops up...somehow it just calls to me.  So, I feature it as the star & give it some co-stars and go with it.  Funny how it usually works for me.  Don't know how other artists work, but that is my method.  I know there are colors that are the "IN" ones for the year...and I try to design with those in mind on some projects, but sometimes I just let my COLORS call to me.  See some things I have created lately...

PINK SATURDAY IS HERE!!!

HAPPY ST. PADDY'S day to all!  Ahhh, speaking of the Irish & all things GREEN...with the torrential rain we've had the last couple of days we are REALLY seeing GREEN!  Flood warnings all around.  Hope you all have a wonderful March 17th & celebrate a little bit with some green beer &a wee bit o' blarney.

I have been working on Cocktail Napkin designs this week...(must be why am I hankering for a pina colada?)  Here's a peek at a couple of them.  

The PINK I see this week is my Daphne bush beginning to bloom,

 one of my favorite smells that takes me back to my childhood...

Mom had some of those bushes & the 
smell was always a great harbinger of spring!

PINK SATURDAY...

Another Saturday has arrived...were does the week go?  Will someone please tell me...I need a few more days in my week.  This week has been filled with lots of drawing and that makes me happy.  Still working on my Texas themed project...for drink ware.  I'll let ya know when they hit the stores...

Next week I am starting a new project for COCKTAIL NAPKINS...I think I might have to do some research and have some fun drinks...hmmm let me think?  One PINA COLADA please?  That should get my creative flow going.   To all my PINK SATURDAY friends...please have a wonderful CREATIVE filled week!  THINK PINK!

TGIF...

How does it get to be Friday again...and so fast?  Seems like it was just Monday.  I've been working on designs with the THEME of TEXAS all week...since I'm afraid of horses and not big on cowboys this has been an interesting assignment!  This is a peek at one of the designs I'm playing with...can you say "YEE HAW"?   I am also posting this for PINK SATURDAY...for all you COWGIRLS out there!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!! TODAY I feel like painting the town PINK!!!

It's a great weekend so far and my creative ideas are coming faster than I can sketch them!  I think that this year is going to be one heck of a year...and I say way not?  Just got a new job from my REP...gotta lot of things spinning around in my head about TEXAS!  Can anyone say...COWBOYS?  Yee Haw! CHARTREUSE...

It is a beautiful day today here in the northwest!  Chilly but Sunny...I can see the little tips of the daffodils popping their heads out to show off to the sun...seems they're as excited as I am to see the BIG YELLOW orb.  A favorite thing of mine in SPRINGTIME is all the NEW GREEN buds and leaves that are exploding...ahhh, that fabulous color chartreuse.  Sometimes the color is so bright it hurts your eyes.  I use a lot of this fun color in my work...it just makes me happy.  Today I want to share some wonderful things that SHOW OFF the sweet color of CHARTREUSE!

TANGERINE!

Well finally a color that I can get into!  I LOVE color!  This is 'THE" color of the year and I have done a lot of things in the past with this color, but now that I know it is the color of 2012...look out!  Here is a piece I created recently...with guess what?   TANGERINE is in the house!   See the CRAZY pattern on the shoes?  good ole tangerine!

Ready to plunge into the abyss...I've been trying to challenge myself creatively these days.  Like many artists it is oh so easy to take the fork in the road that we are used to going down...but I am going to go the route least traveled...for me that is.

LET IT SNOW!

It is trying it's best to give us some 'Snow Days'...love it if it would just snow us in for a few days...with nothing to do but, create, read, relax & think about what lies ahead for us in 2012.  My Reps just got back from the Atlanta Gift Show...they were talking to manufacturers about my designs.  I feel there are interesting things coming my way this year!  At the moment I'm working furiously on some New designs that I absolutely Love...as some of you know, it's not always the case that an artist 'loves' what they do, they see room for improvement, changes, a different approach...well, not this time.  I have been doing so many 'mock-ups' this past year for potnetial clients & working on a booth for the Licensing Show that I haven't had much time for just exploring...well, the time hit me a few days ago. 

The original idea came out from a recent sleepless night...you know we all have them...the clock is slowly ticking away, your mind won't shut off...in my case I start creating & coming up with ideas for me to do in the studio the next day.  I picked up my pencils...started to draw...first little sketch sprung onto the page...then the next...then another...and the next thing I knew I had come up with about 25 little quick sketches that made up a series.  Today I'm going to explore with techniques & mediums...unleash the beast!

MONDAY SMONDAY...

This week I'm creating designs for drinkware...like glasses & mugs.  This is one of my artist series...I start out with old cardboard, gesso it a couple of times, not worrying about making it smooth, (I like texture) then after it dries I get out the brushes & sponges and so go town painting abstracts...I really love the freedom that this allows me.  I also love making a mess with paints!  Reminds me of being young & carefree!  Here's to 'being FREE'!

This is it...I feel ready to take a leap!  This past year has been a year of great creative growth for me....but the year ahead of me I'm sensing will be one of 'huge leaps'...
